Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr. Kao Kim Hourn, on 24 July 2026, witnessed the ministerial-level signing ceremony of the Instruments of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) by the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Poland, Romania, the Kingdom of Sweden, the on the margins of the 59th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings, in Manila, the Philippines. The accession of these countries brings the number of High Contracting Parties to the TAC to 62. Held during the milestone year marking the 50th anniversary of the TAC, the signing ceremony underscores the Treaty’s enduring relevance and growing importance, as well as the interest that external partners place on ASEAN, and their commitment to uphold the purposes and principles enshrined in the Treaty.
