TORONTO, May 1, 2024 /CNW/ – Agnico Eagle Mines Limited (NYSE: AEM) (TSX: AEM) (“Agnico Eagle”) announced today that further to its news release dated April 25, 2024, it has received approval from the Toronto Stock Exchange (the “TSX”) of Agnico Eagle’s notice of intention to renew its normal course issuer bid (the “NCIB”).

Under the NCIB, Agnico Eagle may purchase for cancellation, on the open market at its discretion, during the period commencing on May 4, 2024 and ending on the earlier of May 3, 2025 and the completion of purchases under the NCIB, up to the lesser of: (i) 24,961,914 common shares of Agnico Eagle (“Common Shares”), which is 5% of the issued and outstanding Common Shares; and (ii) that number of Common Shares that can be purchased by Agnico Eagle under the NCIB for an aggregate purchase price, excluding commissions, of not more than $500,000,000, subject to the normal terms and limitations of such bids. Based on the closing share price of $65.52 on April 26, 2024, 7,631,258 Common Shares would be purchasable under the NCIB, representing approximately 1.53% of the issued and outstanding Common Shares as of April 26, 2024. As of April 26, 2024, Agnico Eagle had 499,238,285 issued and outstanding Common Shares.

Daily purchases on the TSX under the NCIB will be limited to 339,107 Common Shares, other than purchases made pursuant to the block purchase exception, which represents 25% of the average daily trading volume of 1,356,432 on the TSX for six months ending March 31, 2024. The actual number of Common Shares which may be purchased under the NCIB and the timing of any such purchases will be determined by the management of Agnico Eagle, subject to applicable law and the rules of the TSX. Purchases under the NCIB are expected to be made through the facilities of the TSX, the New York Stock Exchange and alternative trading systems in Canada or the United States, at prevailing market prices. The NCIB will be funded using Agnico Eagle’s existing cash resources, and any Common Shares repurchased by Agnico Eagle under the NCIB will be cancelled.

Agnico Eagle believes that the NCIB will provide a flexible tool as part of Agnico Eagle’s overall capital allocation program and objectives, while generating value for shareholders. Decisions regarding any future repurchases will depend on certain factors, such as market conditions, share price and other opportunities to invest capital for growth. Agnico Eagle may elect to suspend or discontinue share repurchases at any time, in accordance with applicable laws.

Agnico Eagle has established an automatic share purchase plan in connection with its NCIB to facilitate the purchase of Common Shares during times when Agnico Eagle would ordinarily not be permitted to purchase Common Shares due to regulatory restrictions or self-imposed black-out periods. Before entering a black-out period, Agnico Eagle may, but is not required to, instruct the broker to make purchases under the NCIB based on parameters set by Agnico Eagle in accordance with the share purchase plan, TSX rules and applicable securities laws. The plan has been pre-cleared by the TSX and will be effective May 8, 2024.

Under Agnico Eagle’s prior NCIB, which commenced on May 4, 2023 and ends on May 3, 2024, Agnico Eagle obtained approval to purchase up to a total of 24,718,919 Common Shares, of which 375,000 Common Shares were purchased through the facilities of the TSX and the New York Stock Exchange at a weighted-average price of approximately $52.9931 (excluding commissions) per Common Share.

The 27th Annual CAF Conference in September 2024 will center on security in the Americas

Source:

For the region’s citizens, crime is a primary concern in daily life. The rise in crime rates, drug trafficking, violence against women, and the presence of gangs in neighborhoods have all contributed to a heightened sense of insecurity across our hemisphere.

Various forms of organized crime, including drug trafficking, illegal migrant smuggling, arms trafficking, and illegal mining, have proliferated in the region alongside criminal gangs that have used violence to assert control over neighborhoods.

In response to these challenges, the Annual CAF Conference, in collaboration with the Inter-American Dialogue and the Organization of American States (OAS), will propose new solutions to combat this pervasive issue, which undermines the life aspirations of millions of people in Latin America and the Caribbean and hampers human development and economic growth in the region.

During the announcement of the Annual CAF Conference, Sergio Díaz-Granados remarked, “The spirit of using multilateralism and international organizations to face the challenges that the region has is one of the most important purposes of the conference. This joint efforts will help us to maintain a good level of dialogue to overcome the 2030 Agenda in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The topics that the conference has been addressing in its various editions are directly linked to the four pillars of our organization: promotion and strengthening of democracy, access to human rights and equity, multidimensional security and comprehensive development. For us, this conference is essential to develop a joint agenda with the different cooperation bodies”, added Luis Almagro, OAS Secretary General.

Rebecca Bill-Chavez, President & CEO of the Inter-American Dialogue, stated that The need to address crime and violence in Latin America and the Caribbean is urgent and undeniable. Reducing citizen insecurity will significantly increase economic development, help address one of the root causes of the hemisphere-wide migration crisis, and strengthen democratic governance – if the policies are consistent with the rule of law and human rights”.

Organized since 1997 by CAF (the Development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean), the Inter-American Dialogue, and the Organization of American States, the Annual CAF Conference stands as a key hemispheric forum for discussing and analyzing major political, economic, and social trends in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Latin America and the Caribbean seek to boost their global influence with a regional brand

Source:

Having a regional brand that represents the diversity and potential of Latin America and the Caribbean and acts as a vehicle to promote alliances and develop initiatives that promote the growth of our countries and contribute to the region having a more relevant place on the global stage, are some of the objectives of the open call by CAF – development bank of Latin America and the Caribbean – to create a regional brand.

With more than 650 million people in the 33 countries that make up Latin America and the Caribbean, there is potential to attract foreign investment in various strategic sectors. In addition, a more integrated and cohesive region will help boost synergies and cooperation among its countries, which could facilitate entry into new markets and reduce promotion and marketing costs.

“Latin America and the Caribbean is a solution region for the global challenges facing humanity in biodiversity, just energy transition, global value chains, among others. Promoting a unified identity for the region, which highlights its uniqueness, its unparalleled potential for tourism and investment, is an opportunity to foster sustainable and inclusive growth,” said Sergio Díaz-Granados, Executive President of CAF.

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature, up to 37% of climate change mitigation needs can be met with nature-based solutions, which puts Latin America and the Caribbean in a privileged position, given that the region has 9.3 million square kilometers of forests (equivalent to a quarter of the planet’s forest cover), has 60% of terrestrial biodiversity and 14% of the world’s total agricultural land area.

The visual identity of the Regional Brand that will be present in major global forums, representing the cohesive region, will be the result of a co-creation process, through a public contest that invites graphic design, advertising and communication professionals to participate.

Applications are open until April 26 at caf.com. Selected creatives and advertisers will be invited to participate in a bootcamp to be held in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where they will compete for a $20,000 prize and have the opportunity to participate in mentorships with experts in brand development in the region.

We are looking for the Latin America and Caribbean Region Brand!

To ensure impartiality and transparency in the evaluation method, the Jury will have the following criteria for assessing proposals:

Strategic Thinking

Development and relevance of the strategic proposal, understanding the coherence of what will be conveyed to the world.

Origin Denomination, identification with the region

It should represent the essence, geographical, ethnic, and cultural diversity of the region, managing to unify the most outstanding qualities of Latin America and the Caribbean in the same graphic language, represented through the brand created.

Adaptability, flexibility, and versatility

Originality, clarity in expressing main ideas, as well as composition and applicability to different visual systems in the implementation of the brand region system will be valued.

CAF and MCDF join to lift air connectivity in Latin America and the Caribbean

Source:

Airports are an essential part of the transport and logistics network in Latin America and the Caribbean, and a means to improve connectivity between cities and countries. However, they also generate negative externalities such as noise, pollution, ineffective space usage, road congestion, and other environmental concerns.

For that reason, CAF, Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, and The Multilateral Center for Development Finance (MCDF) established a partnership where the main deliverable will be a pilot project concept paper with an estimated budget of USD 157,500.

The work will include a three-month study to gather data on city airport dynamics and features, the link between national and cross-border connectivity and issues around asset ownership, management modalities, investment requirements, operational matters, and financial, economic and safeguards considerations.

“Our partnership with the MCDF marks a crucial step in CAF’s commitment to enhancing airport infrastructure in Latin America and the Caribbean. By securing this technical assistance grant, we are not only investing in the future of city airports but also in the economic growth and connectivity of the region as a whole. Together with MCDF, we are confident that we can pave the way for transformative change in the aviation sector,” said Ignacio Corlazzoli, Manager of Resource Mobilization and Global Alliances.

Based on this information and analytics, CAF will be better equipped to consider a first project in the area, and thereafter craft an appropriate proposal for project preparation (i.e. a feasibility study).

In addition, CAF will be responsible for the implementation of the proposed technical assistance, including hiring a consulting firm which provides three individual experts with experience in city airport work, as well as in urban and regional development.

It is prime to highlight that the expected outcome for this project leans in the wide range of economic and social benefits across Latin America and the Caribbean. These benefits include economic growth, infrastructure development, increase of tourism, employment, connectivity, and community development.
