Davis Polk & Wardwell and Cassels Brock & Blackwell top M&A legal advisers in metals and mining sector during Q1 2024, reveals GlobalData

Davis Polk & Wardwell and Cassels Brock & Blackwell were the top mergers and acquisitions (M&A) legal advisers in the metals & mining sector during the first quarter (Q1) of 2024 by value and volume, respectively, according to the latest legal advisers league table by GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database reveals that Davis Polk & Wardwell achieved the leading position in terms of value by advising on $2.2 billion worth of deals. Meanwhile, Cassels Brock & Blackwell led in terms of volume by advising on a total of four deals.

Aurojyoti Bose, Lead Analyst at GlobalData, comments: “Despite a decline in number of deals advised by it in Q1 2024 compared to Q1 2023, Cassels Brock & Blackwell led by volume. In fact, its ranking by volume improved from second position in Q1 2023 to the top position in Q1 2024. Meanwhile, Davis Polk & Wardwell, apart from leading by value, also occupied the third position by volume during Q1 2024.”

An analysis of GlobalData’s Deals Database reveals that Ashurst, Cravath Swaine & Moore and Sullivan & Cromwell jointly occupied the second position in terms of value with each of them advising on a deal worth $2.2 billion followed by Herbert Smith Freehills with $1.7 billion worth of deals.

Meanwhile, McCarthy Tetrault occupied the second position in terms of volume with three deals, followed by Davis Polk & Wardwell with two deals, Herbert Smith Freehills with two deals and Linklaters with two deals.
